These are the first pictures of Peugeot’s new super-mini 208, due for launch in 2012. It will be available in both 3 and 5-door hatchback, taking its lines from a mix of the iconic 205, the 206 and the company’s European best-seller, the 207.
An extensive marketing campaign has just been launched, entitled 'Re-Generation' with the objective of reclaiming the brand leadership of the competitive small car in Europe next year. The 208 is smaller on the outside than 207 (7cm shorter and 1cm lower), but, says Peugeot, offers more room inside for rear passengers and a more generous boot. The 208 weighs on average 110kg less than 207.
The 208 also adopts the new Peugeot style lines seen on the new Peugeot 508 and facelift 308. A new floating grille, newly sculpted lights and boomerang rear lamps give the 208 sporty looks. The Peugeot 208's interior will mark a new departure in a complete redesign and layout of the instruments and controls. These are now positioned around a small steering wheel within easy reach of the driver.
The car will also be available with touch-screen technology, while an elevated instrument panel, positioned directly in front of the driver provides easy eyeline access to performance information. The Peugeot 208 diesel range will include five models, four of which will be equipped with an e-Hdi Stop & Start System. This range emits between 87g/km and 99g of CO2, while delivering fuel economy of up to 3.4 litres / 100km (83.1 mpg).
